Biography

I am a senior History major and Digital Arts & Humanities minor at Carleton College originally from Westfield, NJ. I primarily study Italian history and I wrote my undergraduate senior thesis on the Allied occupation of Sicily. At Carleton, I work as a Digital Humanities Associate where I assist humanities students and faculty with digital research projects and classroom instruction. I will be attending the University of Michigan this fall to pursue a Master of Science in Information with a concentration in Human-Computer Interaction.

My DH Journey

My first introduction to the digital humanities was through my freshman seminar, Migration & Mobility in the Medieval North. I had previously thought of history as a stagnant and traditional discipline reliant on written texts and artifacts, very much separate from the realm of the digital. That course disrupted that misconception and showed me that historical research and modern technology often go hand-in-hand, as seen in methods like network analysis, digital mapping, and stable isotope analysis. This discovery that STEM and the humanities were not as separate as I had once thought sparked my interest in the digital humanities.

As a History major, one of the primary things I have learned is that stories have power: how a story is told, what parts are emphasized, and for whom it is intended shape the communities around us. I believe that technology is a potent storytelling device: data visualizations frame narratives, websites host our stories, and creative programs like Photoshop bring our artistic visions to life. As a digital humanist, I aspire to tell stories through technology that amplify marginalized voices, connect communities, and bridge gaps between people, technology, and information. To that end, I am passionate about public digital history, digital scholarship, and community engagement.

For Fun

Outside of work, I am President of the Carleton Society of Paranormal and Extraterrestrial Research (CaSPER), Carleton’s oldest and most prestigious ghost club. I love eating pasta, attempting the NY Times crossword, playing simulation games, and fostering dogs.
